Chelsea

The bold modern garden

Video shows: 80 plants in a garden 20m long with planting space 1.2m wide, on each side.

Contemporary and modern with dramatic planting and straight, angular lines. This is the minimalist approach to gardens, where planting is simple and supported with clean flowing lines.

Chelsea planting style

Plant choices here are muted, subtle and contemporary. Plenty of white, green and silver with an accent colour, typically blue. Architectural shapes in the plants provide some unfussy drama. There is less density to the planting in a Chelsea design - less is more here. Flowerbeds are often not as deep and individual plants have space to be fully appreciated, standing confidently on their own.

Signature plants

  • Salvia

Also known as ornamental sage, Salvia is a beautifully striking and scented herbaceous perennial to use in your garden. Their profusion of intricate flowers offer pollinators a rich source of nectar throughout the summer months and their aromatic foliage can help you unwind.

  • Echinops

Echinops are perfect for an architectural garden style. With silvery foliage and blue metallic spiky globe like flowers, they can transform a space with outstanding contrast. They invite a number of pollinators into the garden and are excellent for cut flowers to take into the home.

  • Gaura

Selected purely for their airy form, Gaura are elegant perennials offering subtle height and floaty drifts dancing like white butterflies. Delicate star-shaped flowers flit throughout the summer and will last until all of your other plants begin to die back.
